OPPORTUNITY
School Social Workers at Green Dot Public Schools Southeast Texas act as a liaison between school, home, and community. They provide comprehensive services to students, families, and school systems to prevent, remediate, and remove barriers interfering with learning, with a particular focus on barriers to student attendance at school.

Social Workers also work with families to help them participate effectively in their student's education, to find and use appropriate resources and to facilitate communication between the home and the school.

School Social Workers collaborate with the school staff to help students and their families. They help identify factors in the student’s home, school, and community environment that may be barriers to their learning. They are also able to identify, intervene and refer students with mental health needs and to consult during a crisis.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
>Provide individual and small group counseling to students around personal and/or psychological issues affecting performance, behavior, attendance, and socialization in and out of school
>Provide counseling sessions or workshops as necessary as well as developing and tracking intervention plans for students
>Serve as a member of the school’s student support team that implements and monitors intervention strategies to increase attendance and academic success
>Work collaboratively with School’s Student Support Team, School Counselor, parents, and other support personnel to ensure student success
>Identify, report, and coordinate evidence-based interventions for targeted, at-risk students as outlined by Texas Education Agency (TEA), School Culture, and Compliance
>Available for contact with parents, students and staff to discuss student progress and problems after class, at night, or on weekends (via cell phone or in person)
>Maintain case files and reports to track students’ progress
>Maintain work hours extending beyond school hours for other professional duties or functions such as staff meetings, etc.
>Actively work with parents to support access and utilization of school and community resources
>Manage and create parent engagement opportunities including, but limited to, seminars and workshops.
>Support staff understanding of factors affecting student behavior and support teacher implementation of research-based behavior management strategies
>Maintain professional standards and a school environment that is productive, safe, and focused
>Participate in Green Dot and individual professional development
>Participate in other events aimed at promoting or developing Green Dot and its schools
>Participate in IEP meetings as needed
>Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
>Bachelor’s Degree, and Master’s Degree in LMSW, LCSW, LPC-I, or LPC  (required)
>Hold a valid Texas School Counselor Certification, or be enrolled in a TEA approved School Counselor Certification Program
>Minimum two years experience as a classroom teacher in a public or accredited private school (preferred)
>Experience with individual and group counseling
>A passion for improving urban middle schools and driving education reform
>Experience working in a school setting
>Proven management and team building skills
>Ability to understand student maturity levels and the process of goal selection
>Ability to help students gain an awareness of interests and abilities and to help them make course choices that will lead to appropriate careers commensurate with interests and abilities
>Ability to understand test construction and interpret educational test data
>Ability to motivate students and provide academic incentives for success
>Excellent collaborative and organizational skills
>Excellent verbal and written communication skills
